Jaeger-LeCoultre begins in 1833, when Antoine LeCoultre opens the workshop in Le Sentier, in the Vallée de Joux. Decades later the meeting with Edmond Jaeger joins Swiss precision to Parisian taste. The Reverso, from 1931, turns the case for polo and for the street. The Atmos lives on changes in temperature. That line — 1833, Le Sentier, the case that turns and a table clock that barely asks to be wound — weighs more than any window of a gilded rectangle.
Three families to read the catalogue
Reverso is the rectangular case that turns: one face for the game, another to engrave. Master is the round reading of the manufacture, with calendar, chronograph and the reserve measured in the valley. Atmos is the table clock that feeds almost only on the air in the room. Polaris, Duomètre and high complication do not fit in those folders, but they stop every Jaeger-LeCoultre being treated as the same object in a different metal.
