Mikimoto begins in Toba, in 1893, when Kokichi Mikimoto cultures the Akoya pearl Japan did not yet have as a house jewel. The workshop looks at the Mie sea, not at place Vendôme. In Ginza the house opens the address the visitor still looks for: 4-chome and Ginza 2 by Toyo Ito, the pearl façade the avenue reads from afar. The line is short and Japanese: Toba, nacre, Ginza.

Pearl, atelier and the building

Akoya is the craft of the farm. High jewellery is the atelier that sets diamond beside the pearl. Comme des Garçons is the turn in which the house accepts another cut. Three folders, the same name. Anyone who treats every Mikimoto as the same necklace with a different clasp loses Toba and loses Ginza.
